Treebottom Wines is perched high on Howell Mountain in Angwin, California, co-founded by Michael Henry (the winemaker) and his good friend Scott Alexander (the wine drinker). Howell Mountain rises above the valley floor directly east of St. Helena, a distinct sub-appellation within the broader Napa Valley AVA. At elevations above 1,400 feet, the vines sit above the valley fog line—maximizing sun exposure, extending the growing season, and building natural intensity and layered complexity in the fruit. Combined with Howell Mountain’s signature red volcanic rock and Aiken loam soils, these elements form the sine qua non—the essential conditions—of the site’s terroir.

Treebottom’s aim is to rein in the individuality of the grapes into wines that are both expressive and intentional: shaped by the winemaker’s voice while remaining grounded in place. Every bottle is made to honor the land and the farmers who have developed it, reflecting a deep respect for family, stewardship, and the long work that defines great mountain vineyards.

The home vineyard—Henry’s Brother’s Ranch—adds another defining detail: it borders Dunn Vineyards, placing Treebottom in one of the most serious and storied corners of Howell Mountain. It’s a neighborhood known for structure, longevity, and unmistakable mountain character—exactly the kind of setting that rewards patience in the vineyard and precision in the cellar.
