Wancha Wines was founded by winemaker Ayele Solomon in the heart of Sonoma Valley. The word "wancha" (ዋንጫ) means “horn cup” or “winner’s trophy” in Amharic, and is a traditional vessel still in use in rural Ethiopia for serving non-te'j drinks. While Ethiopia is best known for t'ej— or honey wine—there is also a rich, artisanal (non-domesticated) grape wine tradition that dates back centuries. After many years and several limited-release estate bottles, Solomon is proud to share his family's history and tradition with the world in the form of Wancha Wines. Every bottle is crafted exclusively with grapes from certified organic or sustainably farmed vineyards in Lake County and the Sierra Foothill.

A bright and lively wine crafted from grapes sourced from Bartolucci Vineyards, this 2017 Chardonnay is a complex sensation of green apple and subtle minerality with hints of spice and vanilla. This elegant vintage drinks like an Italian Chardonnay with a long acid finish—not overly buttery or oaked.
