Vincent Arroyo’s winemaking style is the embodiment of his philosophy about his land. Take what you have, and do the best you can with it. Each wine at his Otra Vez Winery is hand-crafted, starting from before the grapes are harvested. Vince decides how the grapes from each vineyard will be vinified, when they will be picked, how they will be crushed, what fermentation regimes they will undergo, and what percentage of French or American and new or old barrels will maximize the flavor during the barrel-aging process.
From the hills of Rattlesnake Acres Vineyard and the valley floor of Colin's Vineyard, both nestled in Napa Valley's newest appellation - Calistoga, where daytime summer temperatures can soar to 100° and then plummet to a low of 50° at night due to cool evening winds, perfect for grape growing - comes a lush, meaty Cabernet Sauvignon with good acidity and distinctive blackberry (dark berry) flavors with a touch of cocoa. The floral nose is followed by fistfuls of black currant on a bed of crushed earth and spicy cedar notes. Well-integrated tannins pull through to a lengthy, red currant finish.
The 2016 Cabernet is sourced from two prime estate vineyards – each with its own defining character. One grows in the rich, heavy soils of the valley floor, the other thrives in a hillside vineyard. Blending the two, Vincent Arroyo creates a well-balanced wine.
You will just want to linger over this glass, pick apart the individual flavors and get to understand what it is all about. A wine you will want to share with some of your best friends. This wine will hold its color and integrity of fruit for many years to come.
