Product Description

The inspiration for the Venus Clam is the famous painting “The Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli, made in 1480, where the roman goddess Venus is brought to shore on a seashell. From the dreamlike painting celebrating beauty emerges a serving plate made to elevate all places and occasions. The uneven base of the shell is mirrored in the flat surface of the plate. Streaks of color enhance the depth of the material which creates an alluring effect. It is a seductive invitation to life.

Designer Åsa Jungnelius is an artist (MFA) and lecturer at Konstfack, the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, based in Stockholm and Månsamåla, in the southern Swedish province of Småland. Her work is often bound to materialism, where the materialistic language analyze the relation between our bodies, the objects we surround them with and the space in where the two parts interact with each other. She is currently working on ”Snäckan”, The Seashell, a public artwork in the new Hagastaden underground train station in Stockholm. ”Snäckan” is a tribute to motherhood.
