1953 B STAR $2 Legal Tender 10 Consecutive // # 876 - 885

Being offered today is a rare $2 Dollar 1953 “B” series Legal Tender STAR Note.

STAR Notes are far more valuable than a regular printed note. When The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP prints a sheet of notes and they are damaged in any way, the notes must be destroyed. By law, they need to print notes bearing the damaged serial numbers. When they print the new notes, they must bear a STAR in front of the serial number. This designates the note as a “replacement note."

A Legal Tender Note is designated by the Red Seal on the right center of the note. The 1953 $5 dollar Legal Tender has 4 different notes in the series. They start at 1953 and then go from 1934A to 1935C. The reason for the different types of notes is that when the “Treasurer of the United States” or the “Secretary of the Treasury” changes, by law they must print notes bearing their name. That is how the “A” through “H” series works, or any other dated currency with multiple lettering in the series. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP will print hundreds of millions of “backs” of notes for a series. Then print a set number of “fronts” of the notes as needed for the series with the correct Treasurer of The United States or Secretary of The Treasury. The signatures on these notes are Smith on the left and Dillon on the right.

The note is centered very well, and the ink just pops off the notes. The colors are bright and bold. This note has fantastic eye appeal. The notes show no sign of wear on the corners or the sides. All of the corners and edges of the notes are crisp and clean. There are no pinholes, rips, stains, or tears. The note is encased in a long-term preservation holder.
