Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with laurel leaves and vine scroll / Owl standing right, head facing; above and behind, olive sprig and crescent; ΑΘΕ, all within incuse square. Ancient bankers' countermarks and test cuts made by ancient merchants while in circulation! Good Fine. ** These coins funded the building of the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, as well as funding the Peloponnesian War (431 - 404 BC) between Athens and Sparta.
